After a successful 10 year career in the Business Intelligence (BI) software industry, backpacking around the world for two years, and conducting training courses about BI to British military officers, I spent the next ten years making my home in various places around the globe while being a stay-at-home father looking after my family. As my two children grew, my extensive volunteer work in the primary classrooms at their school in Ohio evolved into a teaching internship program, which in turn led to significant substitute teaching opportunities. This culminated in a virtually full-time role as the fourth grade teacher at Lake Ridge Academy in 2006-2007.
Moving to Johnson City in 2007, I continued to substitute teach at my children’s school, Ashley Academy, but came to the realization that my goal of becoming a full-time teacher depended upon formal certification. I enrolled in the M.A.T. Middle Grades program at ETSU in 2010, accepted a position as a graduate assistant for four semesters, and graduated with a 4.0 GPA in December 2012.
Hired by Ashley Academy to teach 4th grade for the 2013-2014 school year, I am currently looking forward to teaching 6th grade at Ashley in 2014-2015!
